Basic income could lift singles out of deep poverty: Thunder Bay activist

Ruth Westcott, a Thunder Bay-based activist said people living with low income and in poverty felt devastated "when the [federal] government announced that they believe that $2,000 a month [the equivalent of the Canada Emergency Response Benefit] was the minimum that a person needed to survive, when they knew that people on social assistance in Ontario were making far less than half that."
