Guaranteed income initiative for Black women launches in Georgia hoping to tackle racial wealth gap

Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood is one of the most historic in the country. It is home to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, the childhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the King Center. Now, the neighborhood is ground zero for a pilot initiative: a guaranteed income program for Black women in honor of the slain civil rights activist.

In the coming months, 650 Black women across Georgia will begin receiving much-needed payments of $850 per month over the next two years, with some receiving equivalent lump-sum payments.
