GUEST EDITORIAL: Minimum wage is a task for lawmakers

Joe Gruters Hide caption Once again the Florida Constitution is under assault by very well-funded special interests pursuing bad policy, and pursuing it in the worst place. This time it’s the minimum wage proposal.

This has become all too common. When special interests cannot get their way through the Legislature — the representative body elected by Floridians to pass policy-based laws — they do an end run via the constitutional amendment process. This is how we got the embarrassment of pig crates in the Florida Constitution. This betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of a constitution.
