LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Welfare erodes incentive to work

According to a report titled “The American Welfare State” published by the CATO Institute, there are 126 federal anti-poverty programs and approximately one trillion dollars spent yearly on anti-poverty programs at the federal, state, and local levels. And the new trend among leftists is to advocate for even more welfarism by implementing a universal basic income.

In the late 1960s and early1970s, Henry Hazlitt wrote two important economic books, “The Conquest of Poverty” and “Man vs. The Welfare State,” where he made cogent arguments against such government assistance.
