Some Long Beach residents may soon receive a guaranteed monthly boost to their incomes because of a new city program — which is expected to open for applications in November.
The Long Beach Pledge, a guaranteed income pilot program, will provide $500 per month to 250 single-headed families with children who live at or below the poverty line for one year. This first phase of the program, a news release this week said, will only apply to residents living in the 90813 ZIP code — which includes the lower westside, Cambodia Town and MacArthur Park.
