During the industrial revolution, many feared for the jobs and their livelihood as machines began to cut jobs from “hardworking people”. Machines like stocking frames, spinning frames and power looms were seen to be evil inventions that would put people out of work, leaving the economy to never recover. The most radical of this ideology became known as the Luddites – a group who would smash and destroy machinery.
