Residents of San Francisco, California who identify as transgender will benefit from the Guaranteed Income for Transgender People (GIFT).

55 people will be chosen in total for this 18-month program, which will run from January 2023 to June 2024.

The city, the non-profit Transgender District , and the provider of medical and mental health services Lyon-Martin Community Health Services are all partners in GIFT.Participants must complete surveys every three months to help the process be improved in order to remain in the program. The city announced Tuesday the Abundant Birth Project program received a $5 million grant from the California Department of Social Services to bring the program to an additional 425 mothers and “birthing parents” in Alameda, Contra Costa, Los Angeles, and Riverside counties. The program will continue in San Francisco.

As Twitchy announced last month, San Francisco Mayor London Breed was kicking off her Guaranteed Income for Trans People program and beginning to accept applications. “The Guaranteed Income for Trans People program will provide low-income transgender San Franciscans with $1,200 each month, for up to 18 months, to help address financial insecurity within trans communities,” Breed revealed.
