A University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign research team will be micro-piloting a guaranteed basic income program for ten local families with school-aged children called the Champaign County Guaranteed Income Project . The team is led by Christopher Larrison, an associate professor of social work at the U of I, and Kim Nix, the overseer of homeless services in Champaign and Ford counties. St. Louis officials explore $5 million plan to guarantee income for poor residents

ST. LOUIS — Mayor Tishaura O. Jones’ administration is pushing a plan to pay for a guaranteed basic income program, a signature priority aimed at lifting up the city’s poor.

Alderman Shameem Clark-Hubbard, of the city’s northwest side, is set to introduce a bill Friday that would dedicate $5 million in federal pandemic aid for the program. The bill also budgets money to help people who’ve lost their homes, make a summer jobs program for youths year-round and expand health care offerings in the city.

OlyCAP’s basic income program pays off

Thanks to an anonymous donation, 20 households on the Olympic Peninsula have been participating in a pilot basic income program for the past three months that’s helping people get by.

The program was made possible thanks to a $200,000 donation to Olympic Community Action Programs (OlyCAP) , a nonprofit that coordinates several public assistance programs in Clallam and Jefferson counties. Executive Director Cherish Cronmiller said the donation was made by an anonymous couple in Sequim who wanted the money to be used for a basic income program.
