Joe Schoendorf used to make a list of all the jobs that he thought were going to disappear. When that got too long, he switched to making a list of jobs that would not be obliterated by changes in technology, in accelerating automation and artificial intelligence.
That list, he says, is very short. And getting shorter. This worries him deeply – especially when he sees such trends combined with the fundamental deterioration in school education standards in the US, especially in subjects like mathematics.
