Robotic automation could move America towards Bernie Sanders-style socialism

Taxing the Robots Illustration by Greg Groesch/The Washington Times more > ANALYSIS/OPINION:

“We’ll all be socialists by 2040.” That was a conclusion drawn by a panelist at a conference on the impact of automation on employment about 10 years ago.

Since then, things have moved even faster than expected. Consequently, Bernie Sanders may get his fondest wish. Robotic automation is creating the very real specter that we will be forced into socialism someday. We might well have a welfare state whether we want one or not. In 2010, I would have thought people of Mr. Sanders’ and my age wouldn’t […]

The Political Economy of Automation: Analysis of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Elections

Klaus Schwab, the founder of the World Economic Forum, wrote in January 2016: “We stand on the brink of a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work, and relate to one another. In its scale, scope, and complexity, the transformation will be unlike anything humankind has experienced before.” He is describing, among other things, automation. His ominous message winks at what economics are calling the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a digital revolution that will fundamentally alter the way in which people live and work.

Why We Should Think About the Threat of Artificial Intelligence

Why We Should Think About the Threat of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is leaping into the breach from voice-activated assistants to the projection of self-programming robots. The moment has brought humans to a point where they have replaced themselves from automation in a number of fields. AI and robotics have made their mark in every sector of life, whether it be home or workplace, hotels or industries, hospitals, or battlefields. AI is being used excessively in every field of life, and the time has arrived when we should fear if it takes over our jobs. Taking over the jobs doesn’t mean the ease of life, but analyzing it critically […]

A future that’s tense

By Patrick Simon et al

The next decade or two will likely bring about the biggest disruption to work and employment since the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. In that era, machines replaced more than half of workers in some sectors during a span of only about 30 years.

This time around, the disruption could lead to even more dramatic consequences.… Executives say they’re unable to fill open positions that require skills in data science, digital technologies and advanced analytics. For the consumer packaged-goods (CPG) industry, the skill crunch is just around the corner, driven in part by the […]
