Five Robotics Trends That Soon Will Be Changing IT

While we already think of robotics as important in use cases such as manufacturing, oil and gas exploration and drones, there are quite a few others you may not have considered. An increasing number of enterprises are considering the adoption of robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine IT that can expedite and make more efficient the execution of routine tasks.

While we already think of robotics as important in use cases such as manufacturing, oil and gas exploration and drones, there are quite a few others you may not have considered. For example, robots now can do such things as […]

Views on Automation’s U.S. Workforce Impact Highlight Demographic Divide

Younger Americans, those who are less educated and those with smaller incomes are more concerned than older, more affluent and more educated adults about how automation will affect their jobs, according to a new poll.

The Morning Consult survey , conducted May 18-21 among a national sample of 2,204 U.S. adults, found that 59 percent of respondents believe automation and associated technologies — artificial intelligence, driverless cars and robots — will decrease their U.S. job opportunities, while 20 percent said automation will increase the number of available jobs. Wealthier Americans were less likely to be pessimistic about job retention as […]

What does the ‘future of work’ mean for schools? Big claims leave educators with more questions than answers

“It’s time to update our schools so they work better for today’s students,” Stacey Childress, the head of New Schools Venture Fund, said earlier this month at the organization’s annual summit — a who’s who of charter school leaders, their funders, their advocates, and others promoting school choice or education technology.

“With the twin forces of automation and globalization just absolutely changing the very nature of opportunity and work, this is more important than ever.”

It’s a message that’s hard to miss.U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently told the Wall Street Journal that schools need to change because by the […]

LETTER: Stop worrying about automation and get a job

LETTER: Stop worrying about automation and get a job

Why should we as a society worry about low-income retail cashiers and fast-food workers whose jobs are being taken over by automation technology?

When you lose a job, the most logical thing to do would be to get another one. I had to whenever I became unemployed. The people who work these positions should take responsibility for their lives and adapt to the changes by either getting a different and preferably higher-paying job, or by going back to school to learn new skills to get such a job.

And I’m sure there are many of them these days who are doing […]

Will AI Be Empathetic? The HyperHuman Thinks So

Will AI Be Empathetic? The HyperHuman Thinks So

We’ve reached a level whereby when artificial intelligence (AI) is mentioned a certain cloud of worry hits everybody around. Reason; people have been made to believe that AI will not understand empathy, leave alone being empathetic, and that, intelligent robots could bring an irreversible disaster to humanity when the tech attains full independence. However, the HyperHuman thinks otherwise.

Let’s dig a bit into the AI fearmongering currently floating on the internet. Most people now believe automation will wipe away all jobs, while those who don’t care about losing employment (maybe because they are employers,) are concerned about finding themselves trapped […]

Robot-related job losses could create ‘Trumpism on steroids’

Experts predict that technology disruption, such as robot receptionists, will eliminate old tasks and create new jobs. by John Kehoe

Darrell West, the author of a new book, The Future of Work: Robots, AI, and Automation , warns the emerging digital economy is in the early stages of a disruptive phenomenon that could morph into "Trumpism on steroids".

West’s book, due to be released next week, explores in detail the potential for technology to replace workers between 2020 and 2050. His forecast may send a shudder through millions of blue and white collar workers, in both wealthy and developing countries."In the […]

How tech affects women

How tech affects women

There is widespread discussion at present that robots and technology may take away jobs in the apparel sector in Bangladesh as well as in other developing and developed nations across the world.

It is thought that in the labour-intensive world, repetitive tasks previously done by humans can be done in far more efficient, effective way by the machines. Advanced technologies like AI and machine-learning might be able to perform, even the white-collar jobs, better than humans.

Whether technology will threaten jobs across the world or not is a fresh debate. More specifically, it is being discussed that technology upgradation will specifically […]
